I pay Comcast $155.00 a month for TV and fast internet — baring the download limits I never hit, It is an acceptable service, even if still overpriced.

Yesterday I got a call from Comcast.  I didn’t think much of it.  At least how I remember it, the lady said the Auto-bill pay had made a mistake and over charged me for July.  $240 instead of $155 or something.  And they noticed this mistake, and had corrected it. Great so.. I should just be getting a credit. Woohoo money back I never noticed leaving.

Today when I woke up, the internet wasn’t working.

It was showing a stupid comcast activation screen.  To activate…. it wanted me to download some comcastic activation software.  Screw it, I was feeling particularly dumb this morning and I did on my older Macbook Pro.  It completely FUBARed up my network settings.  Glad I didn’t do it on my primary work machine.

Okay, well, one dead laptop later, I decided to call Comcast.

I will give Comcast some credit here, I was speaking to a Real Human Being in less than 2 minutes.  I remember being on hold for USWest/Qwest for hours when dealing with any DSL issues.

I just try to play dumb, ‘my internet has stopped working’, and the lady says it was turned off for non-payment.

Non-payment? I’ve had auto-bill pay on for 4 years, since I moved in.  I have auto-bill-pay with Comcast because I never ever ever want to deal with their crap or be on the phone with them. I WANT FAST INTERNET AND LEAVE ME ALONE.

It turns out that $242 was from someone ELSE who had paid onto MY account in June.

What happened yesterday is that Comcast reversed that payment, and since the auto-bill pay thought I had already paid for June and most of July, and now I had a delinquent charge of $242, overdue for 2 months.

So they turned off my service.

Well, turning off my service for when they fucked up sure is one way to get my attention.

So, I paid $403 to keep the internet flowing.  It isn’t like I had a choice in high speed internet.

In my rage I did change my TV plan from Digitial Rare-Metal to the basic standard plan, but I wish I could of just canceled my entire account.

If I had a choice, I would choose any other service that can offer me 20 megabit/second downloads.

AT&T in theory can offer DSL service in my area, but I don’t have a landline, and they don’t offer anywhere near 20mbit/second downloads.

Sigh.
Edit: While writing this post, Safari crashed. Twice.  :rage:

    so I am on a trip, in central Columbia (south carolina not south america) and using my verizon network card/device and only have one bar on the service/reception indicator…. wheres the trainload of help??? they promote all the time?

    Someday…. hopefully the near future, some company will figure out a way to offer intetrnet/tv service equal or better than Comcast at a fair cost. I absolutely despise Comcast…. their customer service is the worst; their packages are crazy expensive, and their screw-ups are so ridiculous and senseless. I hate not being able to get something comparable in my area. I’m trying to drive a nice honda accord with Comcast, but the damn car is running like a pinto from the 70′s.

    Really, Comcast is pissing me off. When it works like it’s supposed to, it’s great and worth the money. But tonight, which was supposed to be on of those nights to hang out and do nothing, my on demand wasn’t working and it was taking 5 minutes to download 10 seconds of a simple music video on YouTube. I understand that there may be OCCASIONAL issues that slow down service, but this happens once a week or so. Maybe I should call and get a 4 hour window of when they can come check it out, which just happens to be when, like most people, I have to be at work. Can I schedule a sunday appointment, and inconvenience THEM for once? On top of that, our bill just went up, so my wife and I are planning on looking for a different service already. Don’t know why it went up, my lady takes care of the finances.

    I’m with you. As soon as I can find a reasonably priced alternative to their internet, I’m switching. Comcast is the absolute worst. Their billing is questionable, their customer service is non-existent and their packages expensive for what you get. I used to have Directv and switched for a “bundle.” I’ve had nothing but trouble ever since. All I want is the internet, but it’s cheaper with the cable, which is absolutely ridiculous.

    so, the comcast monopoly truely sucks! can’t leave them though because verizon truely sucks also. verizon is not accepting new DSL customers. so in my area my other option is comcast.

    No doubt about it ComCast iz a MONOPOLY!! Where I live in the Ohio River Vally ComCast iz ur ONLY CHOICE other than DISH. Which DOESNT offer phone service!! The bldg. I live in wont allow installation of it either!! We didnt even have service for 2 mos because of COMCAST TECH PROBLEMS!!! and Comcast would tell us Just hang in there with us. We paid them as as always. The next month I had a problem, I needed an xtra day to pay my bill, mind u for the last year Ive paid 300 FUCKING DOLLARS a month, they turned me off and hit me with a reconnect fee 3 times they did this wen all I needed was a 24hour extension. YES COMCAST IS A DIRTY MONOPOLY!!
